Photo Challenge; The Evanescent Fire of Life

“The most powerful weapon on earth is a human soul on fire”
– Ferdinand Foch

Welcome to my little world of wandering words and fleeting moments caught in an instant of light exposure. Hope you like what you find, and even if you don’t, I’m still grateful for being given the chance to share my thoughts with you. Alas, here is another contribution to WordPress’ Weekly Photo Challenge, this time with the theme evanescent.

I hope you enjoy my photos, for without an audience, a photo is nothing but a play with lights!

I’ve always been obsessed with fire. Once when I was a kid, I strung a long woollen thread like a spider web to multiple anchor points across my bedroom. I was just about to set one end on fire to see how quickly the fire would race along, vaporising the lines when mum burst into the room and yanked the box of matches from my small hands and questioned my sanity. Later on, I realised I had been ratted out by my sister and I love her for that.

But that near-disaster did not put an end to my fiery relationship with the flames. That morning, as I sat holding a cup of freshly brewed coffee, I couldn’t help but marvel at the way the flames lived their short lives dancing madly, never static. And that’s the thing I find fascinating about the fire; it’s not supposed to last, it’s meant to be evanescent, but that doesn’t make it any less. In fact, in its fleeting nature, lies the key to its beauty and power. And that’s how a life should be lived…
